VISION Salten Veteranboat Association is an ideal organisation established in 1990. consisting of prvate individuals with an interest in and a desire to, refurbish preserve and operate representative fishing vessels from the region for present day and coming generations. OBJECTIVEThe objective is to restore, maintain and actively operate seaworthy fishing vessels, each displaying the living and working conditions in the fishing industry along the challenging coast of Arctic Norway. STRATEGY The strategy is therefore, through close cooperation with shipping and fishing companies, individual shipowners, central and local government and other organisastions, to ensure a viable sustenance for those vessels accepted into the care of the organisation. We operate in the area north of Bodoe with our two veteran ships, M/S Blomoy and M/S Bolga. M/S Blomoy is a cruiser and bank line fishing boat from 1953. M/S Bolga is a cutter and small whale catcher from 1952. Both ships have original fixtures and fittings. Both the ships and their crews are certified to the required standard as set forth by the Norwegian Maritime Authorities, and is under yearly control and inspection by the authorities.Tours in the region varies from 5 hours to several days, depending on what customers want. Maximum number of passengers per boat is 12. Onboard overnight accomodation is available for 9 adults or you may choose to use a rorbu (cabins) of high quality, which is situated in charming and hospitable harbors all along the coast. For those interested in combining touring on bicycle with the pleasure of sailing on board one of our ships, we have developed an arrangement particularly for cyclists. In this you may arrive by train at Fauske Station, and cycle from there the 30 kilometers to Rosvik in Salten. Here you will experience among other things, the old Rosvik Trading Station from 1760 before boarding one of our veteran ships. The rest is up to you, but in order to assist you, we suggest the following: The 5 hour tripEither a 5 hour or an 8 hour trip in the fiord landscape. The 5 hour trip takes you out along the fiord to a sidearm of the fiord Sorfolda which is called the Sjunk Fiord. We will fish our own dinner along the way, and prepare it immediately while whilst eagles hover above, hoping for a bite to eat. We may see small whales, otters and reindeer on the trip. After a delicious dinner we continue to a very old administration centre called Rorstad; named after the local bigwig and with ancestral traces back to the viking era. There will be guided tours, which can trace its origin back 1664. Thereafter you may choose: have a 20 minutes trip along the fiord to the old and well known Kjerringoy Trading Post, where the author and Nobel laureate Knut Hamsun, wrote many of his famous novels, and where several of screen plays were filmed. From Kjerringøy it is only 40 kilometers trip into the regional capital, including one, short ferry, unless you should choose to use our services all the way. From Bodoe you may board the famous Norwegian coastal steamer Hurtigruten, that runs from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. Kirkenes lies only a few kilometers from the Russian border. The Hurtigruten also crosses the Vest Fiord and runs through the Lofoten Archipelago on its way north and/or south. Regular ferries also depart from Bodoe, both northward and southward, and the national rail network linking the region to the south part of the country, has its northernmost station in Bodø. The city also serves as the aviation hub of Norway, with scheduled flights to almost everyone of the countrys more than fifty airports, as well as being the northernmost flank of the NATO. Its also worth mentioning that the national airline of Norway, Wideroes, with more than 78 years in traffic, making it one of the worlds oldest, surviving airlines. The 8 hour tripThe next suggested tour is to come with us into the next municipality; Steigen. This will be a couple of hours by boat to Nordfold and from there through a wonderful, flat landscape with many interesting sights. We will only mention Engeloya with a Viking settlementt, an old stone church and Battery Dietl, a very large battery of canons built by the German occupying forces during the 2nd World War, with barrels weighing up to 150 tons a piece. From Steigen carferries run south to Bodoe, westward to the Lofoten islands. northwards to the city of Narvik. By road it is possible to travel both nortward and southwards through the country. As you will appreciate we area ble to put together almost any combination of tours and places to see. The best is to get in touch with us and together we can draw up a plan for the adventure of your life! An important factor is to remember that whatever the price may be for your dream trip, your financial contribution goes without reduction to the upkeep and safety of our beloved ships.
